About Dave Mello

Dave is married to Maria, they have two children Ashlynn and Craig.

Dave grew up in New Bedford and Dartmouth.

He attended Stang for 3 years, then transferred and graduated from Dartmouth High School in 1977.

He graduated from Bristol Community College with a degree in criminal justice in 1979.

He also attended classes at U-Mass, Dartmouth.

He worked at U-Mass, Dartmouth as a police officer from 1980-1993, achieving the rank of Sergeant.

He worked as a police officer for the town of Dartmouth from 1993-2005.

Dave's accomplishments as a police officer:

Juvenile officer for 3 years in Dartmouth.

Founded - Cobweb - a bicycle training program for area police departments.

Host of the local cable TV program - Police Line.

Certified in Massachusetts as a Crime Prevention Officer.

Awards Dave received:

The Life Saving Award - from U-Mass, Dartmouth.

Portuguese American Police Association- Excellence in Police Service.

Red Cross Award for water rescue.

Prince Henry Society- Distinguished Service Award.

Community Service Award from DCTV.

Dartmouth Police Dept.- "Award of Valor"

Dave's Hobbies:

Boating, scuba diving, jet skiing, kayaking.

Bicycle riding.

Bowling.

Tennis.

Some of Dave's present problems:

Hard to adjust to being in a wheelchair, since he was so active.

He misses doing activities with his children.

He misses his job, the camaraderie with the other officers, and especially the street patrols.

He constantly battles depression.

He hopes for a miracle for some recovery.

He says Jesus Christ, family, friends, and brother police officers are what keeps him going.

Dave wants to thank everyone who thinks of him, helps him, and prays for him!
